Retention of fission products and iodine using Filtered Containment Venting Systems (FCVS)..

Filtered Containment Venting Systems (FCVS) were installed in the 90’s worldwide to allow depressurization of the containment in case of a severe accident before failure due to excessive pressure build-up. The performance of FCVSs came again to the forefront after the Fukushima accident and a precise estimation of their retention capability (in particular of iodine retention) is of great importance. The project aims at performing multi-physics, multi-scale, multiphase-flow computations to provide insights about the operation and decontamination performance of FCVS scrubbers, that could be used to build models to support system design and optimization.
